Mother, daughter charged with felony theft of dental office

JASPER COUNTY, Ind. A Jasper County woman and her daughter are accused of stealing from the dental office they worked for.
Indiana State Police say Meagan Baker and her daughter, Kayla Baker, worked for Dr. Brian Shields’s dental practice in DeMotte. The practice closed last July, after Shields discovered financial irregularities.
State police interviewed more than 40 patients who said the Bakers convinced them to pay cash to get discounts. Dr. Shields says cash discounts weren’t part of his business practice.
Kayla Baker is charged with:
- Theft of at least $50,000.00 – Level 5 Felony
- Corrupt Business Influence – Level 5 Felony
- Fraud – Level 5 Felony
- Obstruction of Justice – Level 6 Felony
- Forgery – Level 6 Felony
Meagan Baker faces the following charges:
- Theft of at least $50,000.00 – Level 5 Felony
- Corrupt Business Influence – Level 5 Felony
- Fraud – Level 5 Felony
- Obstruction of Justice – Level 6 Felony
