Former dental office manager accused of stealing $30K
Belinda Colovin arrested.
PINELLAS COUNTY, FL • Belinda Dawn Colovin, 54, of Palm Harbor was charged with scheme to defraud, Pinellas County jail records showed.
Colovin was booked and released the same day on a $10,000 surety bond.
For over a year, Colovin worked as a dental office manager in Clearwater and was arrested for allegedly stealing $29,508 from the practice., according to NBC affiliate WFLA.
Clearwater police said Colovin worked as an office manager for a dental practice on Nursery Road from May 2020, to August 2021. She allegedly offered “discounts” to patients who paid in cash and contacted 23 patients of the practice with the offer.
Police said on July 27, 2021, a patient gave Colovin $8,000 in cash to pay for the service and Colovin recorded that she received $3,720 in cash in the practice management software, to which only Colivin and and the doctor had access.
Colovin resigned after she was asked about the missing money, police said.
An investigation found that nearly $30,000 was missing during Colovin’s time at the practice.
Over $16,000 was deposited into Colovin’s personal account just a few days after the cash was taken from the patients, according to the affidavit.
Colovin was charged with scheme to defraud.
