Suzanne Conover, manager at Giegerich Orthodontics, took cash payments from patients and kept the money for herself, officials said.

GALLOWAY, NJ — A long-time office manager at a Galloway orthodontist was indicted on theft charges after stealing about $109K over the span of six years, the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office said.

Suzanne Conover, 49, was indicted on one count of second-degree theft by failure to make required disposition by a grand jury on Wednesday.

Investigation began when an office assistant at Giegerich Orthodontics noticed discrepancies in a patient’s billing file, officials said.

The head of the practice immediately notified police, who then launched an investigation.

They discovered that Conover, who worked as the practice’s office manager for ten years, took cash payments made by patients and converted them to her own use, authorities said.

The Brigantine resident did this for about six years, according to authorities.

Specifically, Conover would take the cash and write down in the ledger that the patient had paid with a credit card or check, authorities said. She then would deposit the cash into her personal account, primarily by ATM during the workday, officials said.

She is estimated to have stolen about $109,000 during the course of the thefts, according to authorities.
